About "Color Me In"

The two selected images are part of a series I created to depict who I am as a character in my life; capturing a performative version of myself and presenting the audience with different variations of a complicated identity. These photos are not meant to be beautiful but rather exhibit a sense of self within a performative lens, becoming a person rather than just myself.  Meet with me; you will see raw details of myself including acne, stretch marks, cellulite, and stomach lines. I have kept these details to completely show what I see of myself, what others see, and what it means to meet my gaze.

Multiple three dimensional characters lay before your gaze. I offer modesty, sexuality, and femininity. I portray myself as the photographer, the model, and the audience in this piece; personally directing my facial expressions under highly moderated color, light, fashion, and makeup.

About Sam
