Artist Statement

In the past two decades, fashion has established a significant influence in our lives. Giving everyone a sense of confidence, personality, and inspiration to live with. Fashion serves to create an idealized character, a connection between individuals and the clothing to explore body language. What body language says about a person and, to that end, what makes a good fashion photograph? For me, a good fashion photograph has to tell a story or an idea about the process making of the final image.

As a photographer, I am interested in commercial photography that focuses on women’s fashion and celebrates the idea of new styles, colors, and designs. Photographing contemporary fashion gives me the ability to interpret certain trends and produce visual looks that challenge the audience to a new fashion imagery. The current project I am producing focuses on five core elements: clothes, make-up, accessories, location, and gesture to create a concept and give the subject it’s visual appeal.

About Sanaa

My name is Sanaa Idris, I am a fashion photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. Currently, I am a senior at Ithaca College studying Cinema and Photography with a minor in Art History. After graduation, I plan to work as a freelance photographer while pursuing photography MFA degree at The New School Parsons.

My goal is to expand my education and become a practicing artist. I consider this real-world experience to be extremely important, as it will prepare me thus far for my future career.
