Artist Statement
On March 14th, 2020, my darkroom photography class shifted to online instruction. I left Ithaca and spent the remainder of the semester working from my home in Massachusetts. Jolted from my life at school, I suddenly felt displaced in the house where I grew up. The change in setting challenged me to observe my everyday surroundings with a different perspective. Photographing long exposures at late hours of the night, I focused on the relationship between light and dark inside my home. This series seeks to capture the uneasiness, anxiety, and isolation of feeling out of place.
